Who is responsible
When you visit the site
The site is hosted by MailerLite, a company based in the European Union, which works on our behalf. When a page loads, the server records your internet address, the time, the page you asked for and your browser type. This is needed to show you the site and keep it secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). MailerLite also counts page visits so we can see which pages are read. We set no advertising cookies and pass nothing to advertising networks.
This website loads its typeface, Figtree, from Bunny Fonts, a service of bunny.net, which is incorporated in the European Union. Bunny Fonts states that it does not log requests or store visitors' IP addresses. This website loads no fonts from Google.
When you join A Letter in a Bottle
You give us your email address, and we send one message asking you to confirm it. Only after you confirm do you receive the monthly letter. MailerLite stores your address, the time you joined and confirmed, the internet address you used, and the country you joined from. We do this with your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
Each letter records whether it was opened and which links were pressed, so we can learn what readers enjoy.
You can leave at any time through the Unsubscribe link at the foot of every letter, or by writing to us. We then stop sending and keep only what is needed to make sure you are not written to again.
When you write to us
We use your message and your address to answer you (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Our mailbox is provided by Google Workspace, which processes mail on our behalf and may do so outside the European Union under the safeguards the law provides.
How long we keep it
Your letter subscription data is kept until you unsubscribe. Messages are kept for as long as they are needed to answer you and to meet legal record keeping duties.
Your rights
You may ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, have its use restricted, receive it in a portable form, object to its use, and withdraw your consent at any time. Write to
hello@romymercer.com. You may also complain to a data protection authority, for example the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
